Having a new baby is exciting, but it can also be a challenging time for everyone in the family. As a new mother, you have more hormones running through your system than at any other time in your life. You are also likely to be more sleep deprived than at any other time in your life. During pregnancy, everyone’s attention is focused on you, and many women are able to spend time taking care of themselves during the 9 months that they await their baby’s arrival. After birth, there is typically no more time to focus on self-care, and most of that attention you were receiving is now focused on baby. The first few months may at times be magical, yet there may also be periods when it can feel like an overwhelming whirlwind, and many women feel as though the world has forgot about them.
Having a postpartum doula can either help prevent that overwhelming roller coaster, or it can help to alleviate it. As a postpartum doula, it is my job to help you feel good. I believe that the only way that you can be the best parent that you can be is if you are happy and well taken care of yourself. As such, I am available to assist you in any way that you need. You may want me to do laundry, make you some food, clean up, run errands, assist with breastfeeding or bottle feeding, or discuss and problem solve issues that may have come up for you. I can assist with breastfeeding, pumping, bottle feeding, bathing or diapering the baby, understanding baby cues, sleeping adjustments, and how to deal with a fussy baby. In addition, I can assist you in managing discomfort or facilitating a faster healing process, both physically and mentally. Other times, you may want me to come and hold the baby while you take a bath, sleep, go for a walk, or simply have some you time.
Many families find that having a postpartum doula allows them to relax and feel well-cared for so that they can simply focus on bonding and getting to know their new baby. Every family’s needs are different, and I work to meet your needs in whatever way I can.
